Microsoft introduced Quick Access as a faster alternative to finding files. The feature works great with a brand new computer; but after normal use, the list of recent documents grows and the access is no longer “quick”. In Windows 10 the file explorer defaults to Quick Access instead of the traditional This PC.
Overview
I propose This PC as a better start page when compared to Quick Access for a few simple reasons beyond just speed. When looking for files on your computer it only shows the most recent files and has no folder structure causing older or less used files to be harder to find. Luckily, changing the default is quick and simple. The best part is you don’t even have to forfeit Quick Access completely, it is still available in the top left column of file explorer if you ever need it.
Disabling Quick Access
The first step is to open a file explorer window. Using either the file folder icon or using the keyboard shortcut, Windows Key+E, to open a new file explorer window. Now go to View > Options in the top ribbon bar.

The new window to pop up is the Folder Options screen. From here you can change most settings for files and folder. Luckily we are looking for the Open File Explorer to option, which is right at the top. Make sure you change the drop down to This PC.

Hit Ok and you are done, that’s it. From now on, any time file explorer is opened, without a specific folder location, This PC will open.
Final Thoughts
You may be asking, “why even bother? My computer is working just fine.” If your it has no issues, great!, glad to hear it. But I have seen several computers lock up while loading it. For me personally I prefer using This PC over Quick Access.
